Deacon Xavier Chau Doan was born in Vietnam and migrated to Roseville, Michigan, in 1975 after the fall of Saigon. There he met his wife, Julie, who led him back to active faith. In 1992, he became a catechist to the Vietnamese Catholiccommunity and the following year was baptized in the Holy Spirit. He became more active as a DRE with RCIA and marriage prep.

In 1994, Deacon Doan discerned a call to the diaconate. In 2003, he was ordained a permanent deacon by Cardinal Adam Maida and served at St. Athanasius in Roseville, Michigan, as well as St. Dennis in Royal Oak, Michigan.

Encouraged by Dr. Peter Williamson, Deacon Doan went on his first mission with Renewal Ministries to the diocese of Thanh Hoa, Vietnam, in 2007. He has gone back to Vietnam on mission every year since to teach, pray for healing, and baptize people in the Holy Spirit. He is currently the country coordinator for Vietnam.
