The School of Spirituality

Theme: Fulfilling the Purpose for Which We Were Created: Holiness and our Vocation

The Cost

  • This year the School of Spirituality will consider our vocation—

    As Catholics called to specific states of life
    And ultimately our eternal union with God

Speakers

Ralph Martin is the President of Renewal Ministries and the host of the weekly television program The Choices We Face. He is the author of several books on the Catholic Church and spirituality and audio albums on the teaching of the saints. He is the Assistant Professor of Theology and the Director of Graduate Programs in The New Evangelization at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit as well as Visiting Professor of Theology at Franciscan University of Steubenville.

Sr. Ann Shields, S.G.L. is a noted international speaker and author. Her popular radio show Food for the Journey is heard daily throughout the world. She is a member of the Servants of God’s Love, a charismatic religious community canonically established in the diocese of Lansing, Michigan and based in Ann Arbor.


The School of Evangelization 2008 —"On the Road"

  • Understand the universal call to holiness and mission
  • Be equipped with spiritual gifts for the ministry of evangelization
  • Receive practical training in communicating the Gospel to others
  • Learn Catholic evangelism as a lifestyle!
  • Daily Mass, Praise and Worship, Prayer Meeting, Adoration, Reconciliation

    The School of Evangelization consists of 4 ‘tracks’. Participants attend each track daily like a class schedule.

    Track 1: The Theology of Evangelization – This track is designed to help participants understand the call to evangelization as taught in the scriptures and Church documents, and the essential vocation of every Catholic to fulfill the Great Commission.

    Track 2: Character & Holiness –This track focuses on the participant’s own spiritual journey and growth in holiness.

    Track 3: Empowerment –This track is designed to empower the participants to go out and evangelize through a deeper surrender to the Lord and in-filling of the Holy Spirit. The participants also learn important prayers and ways of reaching out to those who are hurting.

    Track 4: Techniques in Evangelization –This track will teach participants various practical methods of evangelization.

    The final day consists of field work—going out on the street and evangelizing, utilizing the various methods participants have learned. The last session is a time when participants share what they have learned throughout the week and what they experienced out on the streets.

    *Daily Mass in also included in the schedule.

Speakers

Peter Herbeck is the Vice President and Director of Missions for Renewal Ministries. He has been actively involved in evangelization and Catholic renewal throughout the U.S., Canada, Africa, and Eastern Europe for the past twenty five years. Peter is a co-host on The Choices We Face, a frequent conference speaker and author of books and audio tapes about discipleship and life in the Spirit. Peter and his wife Debbie have four children.

Lloyd and Nancy Greenhaw in 1993, responding to Pope John Paul’s encyclical, Mission of the Redeemer, decided to leave successful careers in order to serve the Church in the full time ministry of Catholic evangelization. Lloyd was a representative for a Fortune 500 Company and Nancy enjoyed a career as an award-winning watercolor artist and teacher. Together they have raised two daughters and are the parents of 12 grandchildren.

The School of Catholic Bible Study

Theme: On the Way with the Lord
Study of Job, the Gospel of St. Mark, and the Acts of the Apostles

July 24-27

The Cost

  • Internationally renowned biblical scholars will develop Old and New Testament themes in their teaching
  • Develop a Catholic understanding of Scripture
  • Personal bible study and small group discussions
  • Practical help and resources for studying and praying the scriptures
  • Learn how to organize, facilitate and teach a group bible study
  • Daily Mass, Praise & Worship, Prayer Meeting, Reconciliation, Adoration

Speakers:

Laurie Manhardt, Ph.D., is the co-author of the Come and See Catholic Bible Study series. She is currently involved in Catholic bible studies in New Jersey and Florida.

Debra Herbeck, a Messianic Jewish Catholic, has led and taught bible studies for the past fifteen years. She has worked extensively in youth and women’s ministry, doing evangelism on university campuses, speaking at high school youth conferences, directing youth camps, and mentoring high school and college age women.

Fr. Jan Liesen, SSD, has a Doctorate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and is a member of the Pontifical Theological Commission. Fr. Jan is a Professor of Sacred Scripture at the Rolduc Seminary in the Netherlands and he gives retreats on Lectio Divina to contemplative nuns and priests.

Fr. Joseph Ponessa, SSD, has a Doctorate in Sacred Scripture from the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He is the co-author of the Come and See Catholic Bible Study series and is currently a parish priest in Montana.
