Tom Edwards is a lay Catholic evangelist
who has shared the gospel at parish missions, retreats,
conferences, seminars, and short-term missions throughout
the world. He and his wife Pam have two adult children—a
son and a married daughter—and four grandchildren.
After working several years in retail, Tom resigned from
his management position to answer a call to full-time ministry.
Seventeen years later, Tom’s work has grown into
an international mobile outreach with an emphasis on the
preaching and teaching of the Holy Scriptures. His conference
speaking, retreats, and parish missions have been widely
received throughout the United States, Canada, and in countries
such as England, Kazakhstan, Jamaica, and Uganda. Tom's
goal is to always show how the Word of God is alive and
applicable to people’s lives today. |
Lloyd and Nancy Greenhaw

|
Lloyd and Nancy Greenhaw, in 1993, responding
to Pope John Paul’s encyclical, Mission of the
Redeemer, decided to leave successful careers in order
to serve the Church in the full time ministry of Catholic
evangelization. Lloyd was a representative for a Fortune
500 Company and Nancy enjoyed a career as an award-winning
watercolor artist and teacher. Together they have raised
two daughters and are the parents of 12 grandchildren.
Lloyd and Nancy have ministered through conferences
and retreats for adults and youth, prison ministry, and
work with the homeless. In conjunction with Renewal Ministries,
they have led outreaches, Evangelization Schools and
rallies in Cuba, Africa, Jamaica, and the former Soviet
Union. They also speak at other Christian churches and
organizations such as Women Aglow and Full Gospel Businessmen's
Fellowship, taking inspiration from the Holy Father’s
call to Christian unity.
The Greenhaw family plays traditional music as well
as their own original compositions in a lively style
enjoyed by adults and youth. They have recorded four
albums to date. |

Testimony of Zoli Kunszabó I was born in Hungary during the Communist period, but my family acknowledged the existence of God. Half of them were Catholic and the other half Reformed, although no one attended church regularly. From my early childhood I lived with my mother and stepfather and received no formal religious education. Even at a young age I often pondered difficult questions such as, “What happens when we die?” In high school I read books by Mann and Dostoevsky, searching for the meaning of life and although they offered me some hope, it was not in the context of faith. I studied literature and history at the University of Budapest and as I read and studied, I found myself constantly fighting against the idea of death and how I could escape my own sinful nature. I wanted to love others more genuinely, but I felt helpless to change myself. My university friends and I met regularly to discuss the meaning of Truth, but our conversations resulted in emptiness and frustration—Truth was either relative or unknowable.
I wanted answers from the religious perspective so I attended a Catholic student group led by a very loving priest. Unfortunately, they assumed me to be already catechized and evangelized and I left there feeling unchanged. For a while I went to a Reformed student group but they themselves seemed unsure of Truth and how to find it. I also went to seminars on Buddhism and Hinduism but their concept of Truth provided me with no solid foundation upon which I could base my life.
I had a friend at the university who struggled with very deep depression. He was one of my “fellow seekers”. One day I went into the cafeteria and saw my friend standing there; I hardly recognized him. There was a visible, physical change in him; he had color in his face, a smile, and light in his eyes. “What happened to you?” I asked him. “Whatever you have, I want it too!” He smiled at me and said simply, “I met God.” That day he related his story and explained to me the way to God—“By receiving God’s son Jesus, we can know God.” After years of searching for the Truth, in one instant I knew Jesus was the Truth. “What should I do?” I asked him. He took me to a meeting at the Faith Church where he went, I acknowledged my belief in Jesus, was prayed with, and immediately felt a transformation take place within me. That next Monday, a colleague approached me and asked, “What happened to you this weekend, did you fall in love?”
I attended the Faith Church but I began to see the need for a better foundation. They taught “the bible alone” but I knew from studying literature that there was the text and then the interpretation. I wanted to know the right interpretation of the Scripture, the author’s interpretation. So I went back to the early Church writings, which led me to read Catholic dogma, which led me right into the Catholic Church.
I went to a Catholic charismatic group led by Fr. István Katona one of the founding fathers of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Hungary. After a while, I led a small group and a weekly open meeting and gave teachings there. Soon my sister, mother, and brother-in law also began attending. After seven years there, I was disappointed with the low number of new believers in the renewal movement. Our prayers for more conversions were answered when the Paul Course on evangelization from Pepe Prado Flores came to Hungary. During those ten days of teaching, worship, and seeking God, we rediscovered the person of Jesus and the Holy Spirit met us in a new way. We experienced a new Pentecost. We learned that the key to mission is the message about Jesus Christ, the Good News that only He can break the chains of sin and death for all. We also conducted street evangelism and saw great power in the name and person of Christ as many people came to the Lord. We went back to our weekly meetings and began to evangelize, proclaiming what we had learned. Every Tuesday night the church was packed and many came to know Jesus.
This new found mission was the early beginnings of the New Jerusalem Community founded in early 1997. As members we have heard the call to give all of our lives to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. In May of 1997 Renewal Ministries sent a team to Hungary to lead three evangelistic FIRE rallies. Through their example in ministry, we learned how to serve as lay leaders, how to minister in the power of the Holy Spirit, and how to remain faithful to the Church. Our ongoing connection with Renewal Ministries has helped us to evangelize Catholics and find our identity within the Church. For many years, until recently, we continued monthly FIRE rallies and hundreds of people came from the cities and countryside and then returned home to form their own faith communities. Evangelization, particularly in Budapest is needed now more than ever. It is estimated that only 10% of the baptized attend church and our country claims the highest abortion rate in Europe. We still conduct four FIRE rallies a year in Budapest (and some other places) with worship, testimonies, proclamation, prayer ministry, and Mass. Our aim is to use as many mission tools as possible—evangelistic and formation courses such as Alpha and Phillip, as well as spiritual days in schools and parishes, to proclaim Jesus throughout Hungary and in the neighboring countries of Serbia, Slovakia, Romania and Croatia. |
