Weekly Inspiration: Because I Love Him
by Pete Burak | Mar 13, 2026
I have a confession to make. . . . Very often it happens that a few weeks into Lent, I completely forget what I’ve committed to do or give up. I’ll go a few days before I realize my error, sheepishly repent, and start again.
This year, instead of focusing on my Lenten practices as simply things I’m doing for Jesus, I’m consciously reminding myself that each action or sacrifice flows from love—not servile obligation. It sounds simple, but I want everything I do this Lent to be motivated by and directed towards loving and receiving God’s love. It dawned on me that I have no problem remembering to make coffee for Cait each morning, take the kids to school, play dolls with Reggie, or let Zeke eat the last donut because each day I’m tangibly aware of my love for my wife and family. It’s not always easy, but I don’t forget my obligations and commitments to them. I want that same posture towards Jesus. I want to obey Him because I love Him. I want to serve Him because I love Him. I want to sacrifice for Him because I love Him.
So, as we continue through Lent, pause today and allow yourself to love Him more deeply and be loved by Him more concretely, and let that be the motivation to finish this Lenten season strong!
