Serbia

Since before 2008, Renewal Ministries has worked in Serbia, helping the local Catholic Church in various ways. We have worked primarily in Vojvodina, the northern part of Serbia that is home to the Hungarian and Croatian Catholic minority in a mostly Orthodox country. We organize large evangelistic rallies, worship festivals, retreats for priests and lay ministers, healing ministries, discipleship schools, Alpha courses, and parish and city missions. We also work with the gypsies in their settlement, doing evangelization and helping them strengthen their prayer community.

About Missions

We are currently working in more than thirty countries in Central and Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Africa, Asia, the South Pacific, the Middle East, Mexico, and North and South America. Mission trips are typically one- to three-weeks long. The rallies, conferences, retreats, and training seminars usually include talks, prayer ministry, liturgy, testimonies, and worship. Most missions have a Charismatic dimension, but are intended to be an event for the whole Church.

The primary role of the mission team member is to participate in prayer ministry in the context of the events mentioned above. Those in attendance are invited to receive more of the presence and power of the Holy Spirit through prayer ministry. Team members may also have an opportunity to share their testimonies, and to help in other capacities as needed. The mission teams include people of all ages and vocations—lay, clergy, and religious who feel a call to mission.

While expertise in prayer ministry is not required, it is helpful for a mission team member to have some experience in charismatic-style prayer, and be comfortable with praying for people.

Practical Information

Each team member is responsible for all of his or her expenses. Costs include round trip plane ticket, meals, lodging and on-site ground transportation. Team members typically purchase their own airline ticket (after being approved as a team member and with direction from the Country Coordinator of the mission trip) and additionally remit to Renewal Ministries a “Land Payment” which covers all meals, lodging and in-country transportation. Land payments can range from $500 to $1,500, depending on the location and the length of the mission. Missions range from one to three weeks in length. Many team members raise money for their mission trip costs by requesting help from their parishes, prayer groups and family members.

Medical Professionals

Renewal Ministries conducts medical/evangelistic mission trips to Mexico City to minister to the impoverished, elderly, and orphaned. This is an opportunity for medical professionals and others who feel called to works of mercy to use their talents to serve the poor in practical ways.

Deacon Zoltan Kunszabo

Deacon Zoltán (Zoli) Kunszabó and his wife, Panni, live in Budapest, Hungary. They have five children and one grandson. Deacon Zoli is the founder-leader of the New Jerusalem Catholic Community, a permanent deacon of the Archdiocese of Esztergom-Budapest, and the current president of the National Service Committee for Hungary’s Catholic Charismatic Renewal. He has worked in full-time missions since 1994. He began collaborating with Renewal Ministries in 1996 and is the Country Coordinator for Hungary, Serbia, and Croatia. He also aids in outreach to Romania and the Ukraine.

Ralph Martin

President of Renewal Ministries

Ralph Martin is the president of Renewal Ministries, an organization devoted to Catholic renewal and evangelization. Renewal Ministries is the sponsor of The Choices We Face, a widely viewed weekly Catholic television and radio program distributed throughout the world, and engages in a wide variety of mission work in more than thirty countries.

Ralph is also the director of Graduate Theology Programs in Evangelization and a professor of theology at Sacred Heart Major Seminary in the Archdiocese of Detroit (www.shms.edu). He holds a doctorate in theology from the Angelicum University in Rome.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed Ralph as a consultor to the Pontifical Council for the New Evangelization, and he continues to serve in this capacity. Ralph also was appointed as a theological expert for the Synod on the New Evangelization.

He is the author of the widely read The Fulfillment of All Desire: A Guidebook for the Journey to God Based on the Wisdom of the Saints, and many books on spirituality and evangelization, such as Will Many Be Saved? What Vatican II Actually Teaches and Its Implications for the New Evangelization, and The Urgency of the New Evangelization, as well as many articles in scholarly and popular publications. His most recent book, A Church in Crisis: Pathways Forward, examines the forces working to undermine the Body of Christ while also using both Scripture and Tradition to fortify the faithful.

Ralph and his wife, Anne, reside in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and have six children and nineteen grandchildren.
